Island Of Ischia
Ischia is an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, the largest of the islands in the gulf of Naples. It has a surface of 46 square kilometres, subdivided in 6 commons. The total population of approximately 60.000 inhabitants most of it concentrated in the north of the island in the common of Ischia and Forio. Its orographic conformation is of a cone to wide base with the center of the island the Epomeo mount approximately 800 meters .The viticulture of the island of Ischia has old origins. From the Romans was called “Enaria”, that means the earth of the wine. Since
 
the 1500's the wine of Ischia, very known in Naples, came exported via sea towards the mainland to the main Italian and foreign markets. From the 1966 the wines of Ischia have been recognized wines to controlled denomination of origin D.O.C. the second one DOC in Italy after the Chianti.
 
The City of Ischia
about 18,000 inhabitants, ancient history, has been known since remote ages by the industry of which earthen vessels as Pliny tells us, the island took one of his names: Pithecusa. The first village was destroyed by the eruption of 302 BC, creating a lake.
Then with the opening of an inlet built by Ferdinand II in 1854 the lake has become the current port.
The City of Ischia is divided into two main settlements, one near the harbor called Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte, the fraction, which takes its name from the bridge that connects the village with the Aragonese castle. Other fractions are Camps, St. Dominic, St. Michael, Sant'Antuono.
 
The City of Casamicciola Terme
about 7000 inhabitants (Casamicciolesi), is located on the northern coast of the island of Ischia. Its territory stretches from the sea and onto the slopes of Mount Epomeo and is the only municipality bordering glia simultaneously with five other communities on the island of Ischia. The earthquake of 1883 destroyed it almost completely.
It is a popular tourist destination, both for the thermal baths, which exploit the mineral springs of the place. The City has both Marina with 300 berths for commercial port with sea links direct ships and hydrofoils for Naples and Pozzuoli.
 
The City of Lacco Ameno
about 4000 inhabitants (Lacchesi) is situated in a bay on the northwest coast of the island of Ischia. It is a major spa and seaside resorts of the island. It is of ancient origin, as evidenced by the findings, from the 'Bronze Age Byzantine era, gathered in the small archaeological museum housed in the sanctuary of Santa Restituta, the sanctuary consists of a nineteenth-century church and a church dating back to thousand, under the which lie the remains of an early Christian basilica. For its wealth of archaeological remains is recommended to visit the Archaeological Museum "Pithecusae" at "Villa Arbusto".
 
The City of Forio
about 12000 inhabitants (Foriani) is situated in a panoramic position on a promontory on the west coast of the island of Ischia. Since prehistoric times to the Roman times was a place known for the exploitation of thermal waters, especially those of Citara. The beach, which was dedicated to the worship of Venus and Apollo Cytherea healing. For several days by bathing in these waters below the vestal Cecilia Metella regained youth and health. More exposed to the invasions of other municipalities, sixteen coastal defense rose to the most prominent is called the "Tower" overlooking the whole town. Forio for the beauty of its beaches, which is rich in green, is one of the most representative of the Island. A natural environment where beauty and history, tourism and poetry manage to get along.
 
The City of Serrara Fontana
about 3000 inhabitants (Serraresi); Among the places inside the island of Ischia has a very special rustic charm, which add to the immense charm, beautiful views. Situated 400 meters above sea level south of the massive volcano Epomeo. From the "Belvedere," which opens on one of the widest views of the island, you can admire the picturesque foreground fishing village of Sant'Angelo and the promontory which, with its sea bays is the gem of the city envied around the world.
 
The City of Barano d'Ischia
circa 9000 abitanti (Baranesi); E' la posizione naturale particolrmente felice, circa 200 metri sul mare, nella cornice di verdi colline, che dona a Barano il privilegio di un clima mite ed asciutto in ogni stagione. Barano è dotata della spiaggia più grande circa due km e più famosa dell'isola d'Ischia, famosa anche per i ruscelli di acqua termale che scendono fin sulla sabbia e dalle fumarole che innalzano i loro vapori dalla sabbia infuocata. Molto note per le proprietà minerali delle acque sono le sorgenti di Nitrodi e di Olmitello, le loro virtù terapeutiche hanno fama mondiale.
