Tommasone Winery

OUR WINERY

FOUR GENERATIONS, ONE UNIQUE STORY
In Tommasone Winery the innovation goes along with the respect for the nature and its cycles in the vineyard, with manual harvests and an incredibly careful work in the cellar. Four generations for a single story, to ensure a quality product with full regard for the native patrimony, together with advanced and modern wine-making techniques.
Fra gli uomini, per lo più, l'inattività è torpore, l'attività follia.

WINEMAKING PRACTICES
The fermentation of white musts takes place rigorously at cold temperature in stainless steel silos, a system which covers the whole winery and that we are proud to have brought for the first time on the Island of Ischia. The ageing of red wines follows, instead, its own natural evolution in our historical cellars excavated in the green tuff as well as a high care and the manual techniques are reserved to the Classic Method of re-fermentation in bottle.
RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND TERRITORY
It is our philosophy to transmit the link with the territory and the deep connection with the natural surroundings in each bottle, taking care of the most minute particulars: from the selection of grapes and vineyard to the wine-making process. The grape harvests are rigorously manual, some of them are picked and only selected in the best vintages, such as our Metodo Classico sparkling wines and family treasures, as the reds Tenuta Monte Zunta and Pignanera.
SUSTAINABILITY FROM THE VINEYARDS TO THE CELLARS, UP TO THE PACKAGING
Sustainability and environment are also the basis of our production process and philosophy. Inside each bottle of Tommasone wine you will find the Sun, the Sea, and the land of the Island of Ischia, as we strongly believe that wine takes everything it gets from Nature. The vineyards do not receive treatments of weeding or chemical treatments so that those who will come later than us can enjoy the same perfumes and flavors of the surrounding territory. We respect the territory but also the final consumer: all our products, in fact, are low in sulfur dioxide, bottled in light glass and packed in eco-friendly packaging.

WHO WE ARE

Our story starts in 1700 in Lacco Ameno

It is the great-grandfather Pietro who started the wine tradition of the Monti family in 1870, followed by his son Tommaso, called "Tommasone" for the wide range of lands he owned. His son Antonio moved to Germany where he opened a successful restaurant without forgetting the strong call for his island. In 1999, he proceeded to the renovation of the old cellars and the replanting of the family vineyards. Today the winery is managed by his daughter Lucia Monti, oenologist, and the only female wine producer on the island of Ischia.

OUR IDENTITY

Territorial character, identity and respect for nature

Tommasone vineyards cover an area of 16.50 hectares (16.5 acres), spread in 14 small properties ranging from the city of Lacco Ameno in the northwest, to Forio in the western part of the Island up to Sant'Angelo. The last one is the southernmost point of Ischia, and it is home of Tenuta Monte Zunta, one of our most valuable vineyards located at 450 meters asl. Tommasone wines are produced with native grapes of the island: Biancolella and Forastera, for white wines, and Per'e Palummo or Piedirosso, Guarnaccia and Aglianico for red wines.
